Hi all very early stages as existing marine setup still running.

Current setup is a 5x2x2 with a 4x1.5x1.5 ft sump. Aprox 600lt running.
I have a large skimmer running not sure if this can be used on freshwater?
What would be the best method for filtration using sump?
I have a auto water change setup to carry out 12% at a time with RO water. I also run phosphate removing media in a reactor 24/7.
I have a calcium reactor that I could use as a co2 reactor if I go planted also.

How many discus could I keep in this setup?

Thanks all popeye

Welcome!

-no need of protein skimmer, in fresh water is useless.
-tank and sump looks fine.
-in sump I will put bio filter material, could be poret foam, bio balls, ceramic rings, etc...
-if you are going plated then get adult discus, if you are getting small discus then go bare bottom.
-no need of phosphate remover.
-I’m not sure about RO, I use tap water.
-no calcium reactor needed.
-I will put about 15-17 adult discus

Hello Popeye,

Sounds like you have a 110 gal tank setup. If so, then at the most you can put 10 maybe 12 adults in this setup.
The RO is good choice for better water quality (depending on how your tap water is).
As Ismael mentioned about your sump, bio media would be good.

Good luck and show us some pictures when done.

hi popeye & welcome to SD! you'll find tons of great info here, and knowledgable advice :). good luck & please do post some pics of your setup!
(ps - I highly recommend buying from a SD sponsor for quality)

Hi Popeye and welcome to Simply. I would suggest reviewing the stickies in the beginner and general discus section. A bit of research goes a long way with being successful with discus.
