I have a tank that is 20" x 18" x 30"(according to marineland website) so it is more tall than wide. Ive spent a lot of time researching tank sizes for discus and from what Ive learned gallon wise I am ok but I not sure if the dimensions would work for discus. I keep reading they use more vertical space so I am hoping this could work.

Thanks for any info.

You may be qble to get a breeding pair in there but notvmuch else.

I live in Eastbourne - the sunniest place in Britain. That isn't really saying much...
Coffee please - black and strong in pint mugs, for best results at least 6 a day.

I'm not big on tall tanks. IME, the length and depth are used more than the height of the tank. Sure, the fish will swim up and down but as a school, they swim more across the tank.

I definitely want the fish to be "happy" so if it's not going to work out I wouldn't do it. My only other option was angelfish with similar colors to a discus but Ive read that they are pretty aggressive.

:bandana: You'll want to keep a group 5 or more discus & that size won't be ideal long term. As stated above, shoaling fish move east to west more than north / south. Standard 55g (48x13x20) is good"T"

Well I am in the process of trading my 47g for a 55g so hopefully it works out.

It didn't work out :(

Id really like some thing bigger like a 75g or at least some thing bigger with a similar shape. Ill be keeping a eye on craigslist.

OKAY !
A 75 gal tank is a great-sized tank for discus - that's what I have & really enjoy it.
Here's some pics, if you haven't seen it before:

:bandana: The footprint for standard 55g - 75g - 90g is same. Prices vary so be on the lookout for deals. "T"

Tony, in my world a standard 55 is 12 inches wide. A 75/90 is 18 inches wide. So a 75/90 have the same footprint.

Sorry Pat, you're right on that but I was refering to the 48" (east/west) for movement as previously discussed. Thanx for clearing that up "T"
