Piwowarski Red Turquoise Timeline

[Second Hand Pat]

There are the Piwowarski Red Turquoise I received from Kraig this past Saturday. They have colored up nicely, are about four inches TL and are a super nice group. They are eating flake, some seafood mix and Al's FDBWs. They are in a 75 with a sump so about 90 total gallons.

These guys are totally settled in and eating anything offered. I was chatting with Nandi (NanDiscus) and mentioned these Piwowarski fish and he told me the foundation stock for the red turquoise was a wild female Cuipeua and a very royal blue male. Must have been a killer pair.

Hi Jeff, these Piwo's have settled in nicely and eating anything I offer. I would say with tail they are all about four inches and quite uniform in size. Below is the thread with pics of how they looked when they arrived. I will have them a week tomorrow...that is should we survive today :p

Oh Francis confession time. I bought them from Kraig here on Simply and had have them a couple of weeks. I will accept the accolades if I can get them to six inches and beyond. I do like the emoticons :D

I have had these guys are three weeks and I am immensely enjoying them. They are starting to enjoy their WCs by trying to catch the stuff in the syphon tube. They are eating most things I throw at them but by far love FDBWs.

Babar, the fish in the third picture is the same as in the fourth picture and yes he is going to be a very nice fish. Excited about him. If he grows out nice he might be at the NADA 2014 show.

Question though if I may. I have been wondering what makes a Piwo RT different than a normal RT? Is it the breeder special strain like Stenker for example or do you know? Just curious is all as many of you are diving into the Piwo RT's.

he came as a shooting star out of the blue some years ago with his red turq. strain he created using a female Cuipeua and a very-very Royal Blue of some sort I can't recall at the moment.

My pair is spawn full size spawn (200-300) eggs and protecting them. I've never had discus spawn less than 15-18 months old and I was hoping that these were about a year old. I don't know what to think. Let them spawn and probably stunt their growth or these may not have the giant genes.

I recieved two from Kraig from this same order and they seem to be sticking together. One has a finer pattern and is smaller which I am assuming is a girl and the other is bigger, thicker pattern and believe is the male. I have been praying from the day i got them that they are a pair but do not spawn. From the looks what I see you guys dealing with they just might be a pair. Lucky for me no eggs to comfirm nor deny.

Yes these are the auction fish. They have settled well in their tank and established pairing. I am trying not to disturb this setup now but a bit annoyed that they are spawning on the tank glass. This is a picture of their 2nd spawn with what's left over white eggs.

I've grown discus out from frys in the past and never experienced spawning this early.

I thought I read the same thing about piwow being hard to spawn. Almost want to make me pulling the pair and put them in a breeder tank just to see.

i got 4 from kraig last june, 2 of mine blew up like balloons the other 2 seem to still be gowing but slowly. im hoping they continue to grow, as i was suppose to get some jumbos as well. mine havent started pairing at all, which i was hoping to get at least 1 pair.

My guess is the Piwo's are more domesticated and mature earlier than a more wild based fish. I have never had a wild caught fish under 5 1/2" spawn which I always atributed to age. My Heckel X's conitnue to grow and I am up to three confirmed pairs all over 6".

Thanks and the color is developing very nice. Overall I would say 1/4 inch in length. I really need to benchmark one but I hate to put them through that.

Alan, I like them both and the funny thing is ATM the domestics are more spooky then the wilds. But then the wilds are well settled.

nice, its funny to see my wild and domestics interact. their behavior is a little different. the wild is much more territorial. so territorial that hes not afraid of the piwow pair that like to spawn next to his rock. they even double team him to get out and he just squeezes back in and starts flaring lol

Thanks Babar, They are feed three times a day. I once asked Paul about how often to feed and Paul suggested every eight hours for maximum growth. So I feed first thing in the morning with Bill SBH flake and before I leave for work (1/2 hour later) they get five cubes of Al's FDBWs. They will get another five cubes when I get home from work about 5pm and another five about 10pm. Not quite ever eight hours but with a job I do my best. :)

One more thing, they get brine shrimp several times a week also.

Best guess is about a year old. Kraig was told by Alex P. they were six months when Kraig received them. So they were about eight months old when I received them in Dec last year and I have had them almost five months now.

Some folks think they could be a bit older based on active spawning with some of these fish. I do have two confirmed females in this group.
