what plants have the highest nitrate consumption

while incorperating a planted refugium wich plants should be added to "eat" nitrates at the optimum rate

im not trying to get out of water changes im just saying if i have plants i might as well go for optimum performance

as of now im thinking
water hyacinth or water lettuce
louisiana iris (just to see if they will bloom)
frogbit
wisteria

any other suggestions or ideas

Wisteria, water sprite and hornwort are all very good nitrogen consumers.

Fast growing plants with shallow roots like stem plants work well. Some plants are more root feeders and some are leaf based feeders. Do some research and pick plants that get some of their nutrients out of the water and not the soil. Finding plants that will tolerate the 80+ temps that the Discus like is the hard part.

Some people say Devil's Ivy (Epipremnum aureum) works very well. It's a house plant and whilst it can grow submerged you would normally just submerge the roots. People let the actual stems/leaves grow up and out over the hood of the tank.
