Already played with it mounted on the camera but I want to fire it remotely. I will have to do some digging to determine the options for getting it into commander mode. Commander mode is currently dithered on the camera.

I have an sb-700 with my d7000. Speedlight is set to remote if its off the camera. Camera is set to commander mode. Also commander mode doesn't work in automatic or at least I haven't figured out how to to it. It works on any other priority mode though.

Did you get the SB700 also Pat? Thats what I am looking into getting after the holidays.

There is a good YouTube video on a comparison of the 600 vs the 700. Hope you get off some nice shots.

I would like to know too if it works in Auto mode once off the camera.

I did get the SB 700 and you can not trigger the 700 in auto mode. I placed the camera in aperture mode and placed the camera in commander mode but the speed lite still did not trigger so back to the book. Alas missing something with the settings.

Here is one from last night. All auto settings with the speedlite mounted on the camera pointed to bounce off the ceiling. Nothing fancy but one of the better pictures of a lite Christmas tree I have taken.

I dont see any fish tanks under the tree. Oh wait, Santa is not there yet.

Thanks Jeff and Keith, this is the tree at my brother in laws house. We did not pull a tree up this year since we will not be home on Christmas.
