I was wondering if there is a reason beyond price that people prefer quarters to somewhat larger fish, say up to 2.5". I've had several people express interest in some fry I have (see my post re: checkerboardpigeon/whitebutterfly fry), and they've mostly wanted quarters, while I also have some nice larger fish. Just wondering.

$10 a fish rather than $20-25 a fish. The difference in time is ~ a month to get from quarter size to 2in. This way you can get twice as many fish for the same price.

And it much more fun to grow them out yourself and watch them develop. Or for some it's the challenge of growing/ raising them to be 6 plus inches, or for experience of just growing little one's. If anyone can grow out fish from quarter size fish to adulthood they will basicly know how to keep discus.

Inexpensive short-term until you've actually grown them out, feed, cured them. That extra inch can help out with a world of hurt, especially for first timers, who dont know better yet,and go for the cheaper fish.

For me is the fun seeing them grow.
