My discus looks a lot like the discus in this video at times. At other times, he's a bright golden yellow with the same fin markings. Could someone tell what kind are they, if possible?

Can you post a picture of him for us to see? It's impossible to say what strain he might be without a picture. The video is of a pair with fry, so they are very dark in color and not their true colors.

Okay, one up for Alenquer. What about the other guys here? Come on, I would love to be 100% sure on this :p

Oh, and btw, I got him in the beginning of December and he around 3 1/2 in long. Now, as measured on the previous Friday(15th I guess), He was just 5 in. Is that good growth in size? I think it is :D But, I'm still a noob, so only the experts here can decide :p

sounds like good average growth. Keep up water changes and good food and he should keep growing. You should start seeing it fill out and become less beaky and round out some more.

Ok, thanks!!

So, it's definitely an Alenquer then?

It is probably an Alenquer. If it turns a reddish brown then it could be a Santarem. Or it could be some other wild type but I would go with Alenquer.

Wild type meaning, wild or wild derived strain? Alenquers and Santarems are wilds or wild derived?

Ohk, so there are WILD Alenquers and Santarems and also WILD-Derived ones like the F1 and F2 generations?

Okay, so I just dug up a few photos of when I first got this guy, and I am myself surprised at how much change there is!

Just a pointer, this is an LFS-purchased fish.

I would say there's a lot of improvement, what about you?:p
My parents first thought that I was wasting money on this "dull, colourless fish", but now even they agree that it was a good choice:D

This is my first and only Discus by the way ;)

Also, just a slight issue. He doesn't seem to like the taste of garlic at all. Anything soaked in garlic is refused totally. Anyone seen this before?
I feed him TetraPro Energy, TetraPro Colour and Frozen Bloodworms.
