Well I finally went and did it. I just looked and I joined this site back in Feb of 2003, so after a little over 10 years, I decided to jump into the discus waters. Pretty sure this is my first post. But I've done a lot of reading on this site over the years.

In March of his year I decided to start my discus set up. ( Here is a link to the actual tank build http://www.houstonfishbox.com/vforums/showthread.php?56986-cobraden-s-110-freshwater-build ) and since then, I have had a 110 gallon tank that was set up to be a discus tank but until today it was a tetra, cory, oto and plant tank. yesterday it actually became a discus tank. Other than the plants that I have listed in the build thread and some additional corkscrew I added , the tank is home to 3 Tiger Turquoise Discus, 30+ Cardinal Tetras, 16 Rummy Nose, 8 Sterbi Cory, and 4 Oto.

I plan to add 3 more discus in the near future, but still haven't decided on which ones. Would like some red in the tank but don't want anything that would pepper too much. I know I'll get some due to the black background and sand, if I go with any of the pigeon blood varieties, I just want to minimize it. One option is the Virgin Reds, but not sure on that one just yet.

Here are a few pics of the tank build & residents as of today. Please pardon the phone camera quality.

very nice, how are you keeping your tetras out of the overflow ? Mine never seemed to last 24hrs before they all end up in the sump or overflow box.

It's got pretty slow water flow, so they have done a good job of staying out on their own. I've only had to get 1 out of the overflow in the last month.

very nice scape, once you get a few more discus in there they will really look nice. I would stick with blues.
