Just ordered one gallon of K-1 media from Josie(ChicagoDiscus), and need some advise on an DIY K-1 moving bed filter? It will be used in an 55 gallon BB tank, with six 3.5" discus that I'm growing out. Right now running a ATI Hydro Sponge Pro Filter #4(80GA), airstone, and AC-70 HOB filter. Really want to try this type of filter for anything easy to maintain. Thanks for any input. Once K-1 filter gets seeded, which other of the two filters would you remove from tank? Thanks guys.

Just to make sure you have a good air pump and strong aerator like a plastic one. It took me few days for my k1 rotate and don't put too much k1 media in the bottle. It's very good and very easy to maintain. I am having too of that in my 55 gallons tank.

I would remove the sponge and just use the ac70 for mechanical filtration.

Or you can keep all of them. You can't have too much filter. Just in case you have another tank then you can move the sponge filter to that new tank

I threw a couple of mine out yesterday. I got tired of replacing the suction cups to keep them attached to the wall. I'm sure there's a better way to keep it submersed but I haven't thought about it much.

I used the big clear plastic suction cups that came on my JEHMCO Safety Siphon's, I also had problem using the "heater type suction cups" too. Just been only two days, so far all secure.
