Hi all, i use to keep African Cichlids, now i'm up for the challenge of keeping discus.
What i have up right now is a empty 55g bare tank with 2 sponges running and 150watt jager heater on.
Planning to just use a 24in to start off, just in case the discus ends up being scared from such bright light.
i'm planning to keep 5-6 discus in the tank ranging from 2-3inches. not sure which kind but will find out shortly.
What i have plan for the future is, water change at least, 20-30% of water daily with water that's been filtered and heat up 24/7.
Going to feed them bloodworms, beef heart and discus flakes.

Any other suggestions would really help me.

One suggestion if you are planning on discus that small is more percentage of water changes. I would do 50% to 70%. Remember for young discus, clean water is key.

Your food choices are good. You should add in your rotation some Freeze Dried Blackworms from Al. You can find them in the sponser section.

Since you've experienced discus more than me, i'll take your words for big water change.

Picked up 5 3-4in Super red covers and in my tank right now.. They seem to be doing fine, Hope they survive,
Was pricey but i got to admit, i honestly thought it was worth it, They're just so red and nice. shape looks good, will post pics soon!

Congratulations! I'm kind of a newbie too. Did discus about 15 years ago, but, wow! Things have changed since then,(for the better.) Don't you just love having all this information at your fingertips?

honestly, without this website it'd be longer and harder for me to learn about discus. this website really helped me,
i been researching discus ever since i started raising fish (3-4years) I always wanted to raise them, but always heard they're challenging so i just kept it simple with Africans.
Now i got my own group of discus its like my world flipping upside down, they're so relaxing to watch. They take stress off my mind with me not even knowing. :D
