My Oddball Tank or Stunts and Runts

[Second Hand Pat]

So this is my shortbus tank or stunts and runts tank. This tank has a couple of F1 Cuipeua and the F1 Tefe from Batch B including my two withdrawn contest fish. This fish should be larger but aren't but they are still growing and who knows, could still be some surprises in this tank..one can hope. :D First the video...The heckel is a wild fish and was too small to go in with the rest of the heckels.

Pat, your love and care shows on them, you may be calling them "stunts and runts" but they look really nice, just not as big as some would like them to be.. Personally I love them, just smaller beautiful versions. You are a wild discus:angel:

Well Jorge, many of these are small and not sure if they will amount to anything. This past year has been an education for me. I am sure most would agree that learning how to grow out fry can take a bit of practice especially with full time jobs and life in general. One lesson I have learned is how easy it is to set fry back and how important it is to stay on top of them.

Seriously though, I'd give over 90% of my current stock to have your throwaways. They might be smaller than others from the same clutch, but still gorgeous!

They do Dave but then pop right back up when I hop off LOL. Actually I do not consider them throwaways per say but more like a grand (or not) experiment to see how they will develop. Three F1 Tefes from the first batch or batch A were right in that five inch range at about a year old in February so that implies the Tefes can grow faster than what I am seeing. Batch B was a year old last month and two are about at that four inch mark. I really need more growout tanks or should keep less fish so that I have more room for what I do have.

We shall see Bud...in about a year or more. At least with the Tefes and this is based on what I saw with my wild Tefes watching them grow into adults (and guessing their age at about a year when I received them as sub-adults in 2011) is they seem to grow into their third year.

If it is HITH then it is pretty inform on both sides. I will take a closer look at the fish.

There may be some potential in this group especially with the long growout period with the Tefes.

With a outside consult I am running these guys through a metro treatment to help is the hith issue. Metro can help to close up the holes.
