I have 2 60-gallon tanks, each with 6 6" Discus. A few Vallis plants in pots. I'm going on a week's vacation soon. No-one capable of looking after them. If I do a big water change the day before leaving, and on return, can I leave them without food or light (except daylight from window)? Any further advice?

I will suggest to do couple of large wc one the day you are leaving. They should be fine for a week without food.

You should be good to go after a large WC. I might suggest minimal to no lights at all as well.

I would get an auto-feeder and load it with flake.

There is absolutely no need to feed ADULT discus during trips. Stop feeding them the day before you leave and do a big WC right before you leave and you will be fine. I have left mine for three weeks with no food in several ocasions (I travel a lot) and have had no problems. It is much better to have hungry discus than discus poisoned with amonia.

You might think about getting a timer for your light as well, especially for the plants. You only need it on 6-10 hours per day and the fish will appreciate having a regular day/night cycle. Worked for me on a 3 week trip for my planted discus tank.
