I thought I should put up some pictures of the newest fish I have acquired. Last month or maybe it was before that I purchased a pair of Lollipops from Eric at Carolina Discus.

I purchased these Golden based San Merahs from David at Angelfishusa. They came form Jeffrey and Tony Tan. They arrived Saturday and this is what they were doing a few minutes ago before I interrupted.

I really should scrape the rest of the paint of the tank so the Double Dark Black angels with HET for PB look better. I just totally had to use that name one time...lol Too tired though. No more working though today. Too hot to move.

So yesterday was fun. I found that the RSG were confirmed with I thought were only three wrigglers at around 7 AM The tds was high so I was just happy to get them confirmed. Around 9:30 I went back to look and don't you know more wrigglers. Yay for Walter!! Then the new angels I got decided that it was time for them to spawn. And did they ever.

Yes angel spawns can be overwhelming with known batches exceeding 1200.

Just a guess comparing it to some of mine I say that one is around 700+. Please let me know if you get fry from it as I need some new blood to out-cross my line with. Congrats Mishka

I am very happy to say the male Angel did not fertilize too many eggs since I was going in and out of the room repeatedly. I will say that they are definitely a pair. I truly wasn't quite ready for a spawn from them.

The Red Helmets had all white eggs.

The RSG should be going free swimming anytime now.

Angels are tricky buggers. Mine did that with the first spawn, but the second was too large to hide.

Ok so the Angels actually still have wrigglers today, but not quite sure how many. If anyone wants to take a "guestimation"...lol let me know.

On another note the Red Helmets have tried again in straight tap water. I moved the eggs to a tank that has a lower TDS and will keep and eye on them.

Update on the RSGs The female was a little spastic to say the least and kept trying to force the male into the corner which in turn freaked out the fry so she had to move out.

Thank you Jorge. I keep expecting the angels to show growth like discus. I come around the corner to their tank every morning and say "Nope still small." LOL
It is going to be fun trying to separate them into each strain. I have been told that I will get some Double Ds, Double Ds with Het for PB, Silver something, Something with lace, some PBs and something that sounded like Dark chocolate with peanuts, but I know that cannot be right. If anyone asks me the strain if/when I sell these I am answering Black, Black with blue, Silver and Silver with a blue Bindi.

Since this was not a planned spawn, it ended up as a cross of a koi with a blue marble paraiba, so like you I can tell there are at least 4-5 different types... But I'm thinking nickel to quarter size before I cull to keep only the best.

Your spawn is huge in comparison, so if they are in a 20 gal, in another 2 weeks they will most likely outgrow the tank at pea size due to quantity.. figure on 8 weeks to hit about a quarter size, unless you start feeding them beef heart.

I counted 264. Obviously I had some time on my hands while doing water changes. There are probably 5 to 10 more than that unless I sucked them up when the killer attack parents weren't looking which is NEVER. The parents are crazy. They are all in a 29g. How big will they be in two weeks? How about I put up twice weekly pictures and you tell me when they need something bigger?

Knowing your maintenance routine, I would let them stay until the body is about the size of a dime before you start moving them around. I grew about that quantity in a 29 to that size before I split them into 2 tanks. Of course if you want faster growth, then at about 3 weeks split them up or put them all in a bigger tank. Each time I do this it become obvious how much more they grow in a short period.

LOL, no one has harder eggshells anywhere (comes from the chickens drinking the water). I use RO and filter the heck out of my tap, but sometimes even that's not enough.

I have found three so far but I really do not know what I am looking for. The three I see have missing or deformed dorsal fins.

To be truthful I more like 10. & of them were accidental. I was not aware that they are a lazy stupid fish that do not better than to swim towards the suction. I had to idiot owner/idiot fish proof the hose.

Need to also look for any that may have twisted/deformed/bent Ventral fins. Get a few of those here and there in every batch. Keep only those which have nice smooth arching ventrals. in a few more weeks you can also start to see body conformation just as we do in discus, you want to keep the ones that are nice and round, it's ok if they are higher bodied also (kind of like altum angels) but you don't want the football shaped angels. Around week 5 you should be able to discern the body shape, if not give it a little longer.
