I have lots of turkeys hanging about the house. There is a group of four adults and another group of two hens with three of this year chicks. This is the group of four. Two with beards. I could not get very close.

In the summer time when bucks are growing out their antlers. The antlers look fuzzy and are considered in velvet.

Very cool Pat. We have a lot of turkey and deer on our property too. We also occasionally see a red tailed hawk, owl, fox, coyote, raccoon, groundhog or bobcat. Various snakes, birds & squirrels too. ;D

I haven't seen our jake flock in the last few weeks, but the hen flock that roams our property has a bunch of chicks right now. On my way home from work last Wednesday, I almost hit them as they were crossing the road when I came over the hill. Here are a couple cropped shots I took with my phone while I was sitting in the car.

The next day I was sitting on the patio & snapped these shots, with my phone, of a deer & fawn trying to decide if it was safe to avoid the tractors rolling hay and go down to the lake for a drink.

That is cool David. We get the fawns too. The three turkeys chicks are already half the size as the adults. Hardly see rabbits.

Pat, you need to catch alive and then feed it nice clean food for a month or so to purge the wild taste out. The same is done with wild boar to clean them up. Some of my Cape workers get them, feed them corn and when ready they taste better than any store bought animal...

Jorge, so wild turkeys are like wild pigs. Catch them and feed them up prior to eating. Now with pigs, especially boars, they must be cut...but nothing better. I sure remember the pig roast in the hunt camp as a kid...good stuff.

Yes, we live on a rural route. They guarantee here by 4:30pm, but i wouldn't change it for the world. I can still send my daughter outside and tell her to be home by dark. We can tack up the horses and go for a ride on backroads, or down the creek. and not meet a car or person for hours. Our closest neighbor is 1/4 mile up the road. There's nothing like it.
