Hello all!

I figured Discus ID would be an easy task,.. but boy was I wrong. There are so many varieties that are so close it's hard for a discus noob like myself to tell the difference, so I'm hoping someone can help me out! I've numbered the photos to make this easier,..

So far all I've managed is,.. (I think, please confirm)

#2 = Leopard Snakeskin
#5 = Blue Diamond

Wow,.. #1 and #6 might be the same fish? That blows me away! The coloration is so different. What kind of cues am I looking for to tell one type from another?

It even surprises me that 2 and 4 are the same, because 2 doesn't show those vertical black lines like 4 does.

Thank you Ryan!

Those black bars are stress bars, most discus have them, not really a means of identifying, except like the blue diamond, shouldnt have any.

#1 and #6 are varieties of the same strain (Pigeon Blood). I had a Blue Pigeon that looked a lot like your #1. Your #6 has 14 verticle stress bars, which is a trait of a snake skin cross.

#2 And #4 both have the Red Turquoise coloration. #4 is showing stress bars, which most discus have and can appear for a number of reasons.

There is a great thread I saw where pictures of different strains are shown. If no one has posted a link for you before I get home and to my puter, I'll be more than happy to do so. I'm still a little smart phone illiterate.

Please do post this for me! I'd like to read it.
I tried to sort it out from the sticky in this forum, but I just got confused. I couldn't tell what differences were significant and which differences were not.

Thank you!

Whiskey,

Here (http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showthread.php?71055-Strain-List-for-Beginners-%28pictures%29) is the strain list, with pics for references. I hope this helps you. It did a lot for me. Also, going through Kenny's monthly availability lists is a great way to see variations of strains. His stock is very well documented with lots of pics and good examples. They will not only help you learn different strains, but will also help you with making a wish list (I now have a much larger wish list than I have tank room atm, lol). Hope this helps.
