Hi everyone, just want to share my spider golden lss discus tank. Been running for over 3 weeks and I just put in discus last night. Still a bit stressed from the transfer. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/09/06/vu2u5y8a.jpg

Nice looking tank, can you tell me a little more about the light fixture please?

Beautiful ! It is a balanced and harmonious aquarium with some amazing discus fish . How many gallons is your aquarium?

Hi Avolar,

I use resun 5 feet fluorescent holder for 2 fluorescent lights. Colors are White and Pink.

I choose pink mainly to enhance color of my spotted golden lss red hue.

Thank you for the compliments.

Hi Wisa,

I am using a 90 gallon tank. Wish I could have made it bigger but my area can only accommodate a maximum 90 gallon tank.

Nice looking lot. I would cover the ends and back of tank and they will settle in better

Looks fantastic! I would use dim lighting just for a little while. It will help them settle in.

Hi Timmy,

Would like to try it out. However, what color would be most suitable?

Hi Madaboutdiscus,

Thank you for the compliments, I use a perforated glass cover on top so as to not disfigure the aesthetics of the tank

Hi Exreefer,

I would like to have a dim controlled led lighting , but it would cost around $400 for that. So I used resun brand, cheaper at around $80.

A very Zen tank! I like it. (If only the tubing and heater were not visible !)

Hi Stan,

I would love to make the heater and filter tubing invisible lol. i just can't hide them without having a planted tank.

Most people go with white or a blue that isn't too dark.

That's a good looking tank! Just maybe but some type of backgrond on it to hide the wires.............

Very nice! Great setup. When the fish settle, can you take more pics?

Actually, you can use an inline heater that goes outside the tank. You could paint that back glass to hide tubings.

Simple yet stunning! I agree on a background to hide the electrical cords. Discus are beautiful as well!

Hi Mauro,

I would love to take a pic of the fishes when they are settled. Sadly, one of them died today due to bullying from the other 9. He just decided to bump himself around and die. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/09/07/gysytysy.jpg

I am sorry for your loss. I might be wrong, but I doubt that bullying by other discus in the group size you have and in the tank size you have, would cause that level of stress. Have you been checking your water parameters? Is ammonia zero? Did you cycle that tank?

So sad, what a beautiful fish to die. I agree with DiscusBR, bullying to death in a 90 gal is very odd.

andyman105
09-06-2013, 02:50 PM
It is odd indeed, my ph is at 6.8. Ammonia and Nitrate 0. Tank been cycling for 3 weeks. It is a 90 gallong but notice my first picture that driftwood might be taking up too much space. It's just my observation. Or another weird thought is he is the ONLY bulldog full spot golden lss gene in there. Whereas others are spider lss golden high grade. Just a weird thought. I hope you guys can analyze. thank you.

Andy, please check your parameters again. After adding such a large bio-load to your tank you could be experiencing a mini-cycle. I agree with everyone that I do not believe bullying is the cause of death here. I would suggest large daily WCs. Sorry for the loss :(

Hi Andy,

Please test your ammonia before your WC and if you find measurable ammonia a 50% WC would be way more effective. Sure hate to see you lose any more fish.

I'm guessing you meant 0 nitrites? How did you cycle the tank? I would definitely do larger water changes regularly until they settle in. Hate to see you lose any more of those nice fish

Or maybe a sump?
I really like the all glass look with no substrate, but the wood keeps the look from being the usual sterile BB tank.

Hi Don,

I am still doing daily WCs as instructed. Others are pretty settled compared to 4 days ago. Breeder will replace dead fish. Thank you for the advices.
