You make some great friends here!! I have been admiring RichT's Piwo juvies every since Rod started the Friends raising thread. When I started a thread telling about my retirement Rich replied that a gift was in order. Well I received the gift last Tuesday. It was 6 of his Piwo RT juvies and some juvie blue strain angels. Rich had never shipped before but you wouldn't know it by the way they were packaged. The water was nice and warm and they came out of the bags looking for food. I currently have each group in a 20 bb. They are getting two 100% water changes a day. Here is a vid I took of them today.

THANKS RICH!!! You are a great friend and very generous.

They look great Larry. I'm still amazed they all arrived alive!! Honestly I was expecting a few DOA but was hoping for the best during their journey. I'm amazed that there aren't any ammonia burns on the fins. Especially the angels which I had packed two per bag.

Enjoy them, it was all my pleasure my friend.

Very nice gesture Rich. Now that its confirmed that you can ship, it opens up a new outlet for you to sell fry. Enjoy your Piwow's Larry. I know they will turn out nicely under your care.

Well I've had them for almost a month now so time for a update. Still doing water changes twice a day and feeding 5 or 6 times. When you see them day in/day out it is harder to notice the change in growth but I'm pretty happy with it. Starting to see a little red coloration in them. Starting with these guys I'm doing something different with all my grow outs. My water is super soft. TDS is about 50 out of the tap. I believe my water is lacking some essential minerals needed for really good growth to get discus to their potential. Because of this I have started adding minerals back into the water with each water change. I'm using the formula that you can find in this thread. http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showthread.php?103814-DIY-Remineralization-for-RO-Water. I really appreciate all the assistance Jeff has given me with this task. So here they are. What do you think.

Looking great Larry! How hi are you planning to bring the TDS value? My tap was just like yours ~50. After Sandy I run ~90. Would still like higher TDS for the juvies. Thanks for the info.

I'm keeping it around 185. If I have new juvies like yours or starting with the first w/c for new free swimmers I take it up gradually over the first few days.

It been a while since I have posted an update on these guys. I don't think I'm getting as fast a growth rate as Rich, Rod and the others got on Rich's Piwo Red Turqs but I'm happy with their progress. They are not quite 7 months old and they are right at 4". Over the last couple of months they have really started showing color and pattern. Here is a video taken today.

Yes Larry I'm having the same results also. The growth rate is not as fast as that batch that Rod picked up. The only difference is in the genetics being a different female was used to produce this batch.

Do you still have the angels? Got some nice DD's with nice blue faces from the ones I sent you. Quite stunning!

I cull all the Beaky fry and keep round ones only. The ones I'm growing out looks to follow in this group foot step... Larry, great job growing them so far.

Along with the Piwos, Rich also sent me some P Blue angels. They have just now matured and started to pair off. Here is my favorite hopeful pair. Smokey Blues. They just laid eggs this morning. No background on the tank and a crappy light so you really don't see all the beautiful blue on these guys.

Hopeful Male

Great news Larry! Were you able to pull some of the fry from the cone?

Larry Bugg

The first batch on the cone were not fertile. I went ahead and pulled the pair and put them in a planted 29. They laid again this week and have wigglers. Should go free swimming today tomorrow. I haven't pulled any. Waiting to see how they will be as parents.

Sure, here is a video taken tonight after their water change. The largest ones are now 5 1/4 to 5 1/2" and the runt is 4". Also included the juvie angles from the smokey blue pair. First tank is zebra's and platinums and the 2nd tank are all somokies. Oh, the first tank also temporarily has some electric blue acara growing out also.

WOW, you make it look so easy maybe 1 of these day's had a batch make it 3 week's too free swimming and after after about 2 week's I had too pull them as they were eaten, first 1 just pulled the male, but saw the female eat several weather I panic, when I tried too pull female as they were many were still attached abd must very close too her as several died within min's and many each day after sat they laid egg's again this time they are in a 29 gallon breeder maybe 1 of these day's i'll be successful, btw even your rant at 4 in at it's age is impressive

Looking good Larry. I checked out your fishroom video. Very nice! You have similar tastes to mine as far as discus go and it was great seeing your tanks. The last wild tank is amazing.

Very nice Larry!! Good luck with them.

Thanks Eric and Rich. Rich sent me the juvies about 13 months ago and it has been a lot of fun growing them out. It is great when it comes full circle and you get them to breed.

Wigglers - the pair is proven.
