A newbie discus lover here. I just moved into a much larger condo and have always dreamed of doing a big saltwater aquarium. That is, until I went into the fish store and saw their feature discus aquarium - hooked instantly! I have a fair amount of space and installed a custom 300 gallon cube shape aquarium in July, nice driftwood and mostly fake plants but some real. I intend to replace the fake until I have a planted aquarium when I get comfortable with maintenance. Started with some tetras in July and got water parameters right and started to add adult discus...I now have 10 and am ultimately going to get 25 in the 300 gallon, which should be a nice fit. I have lost 4 fish since I got it, which was attributed primarily to one dying deep inside the driftwood fixture and raising the ammonia before I knew what was happening.
The fish I have now are all 5":
*panda pigeon blood
*blue diamond
*blue snakeskin
*albino yellow
*golden melon
*red melon
*blue turquoise
*red turquoise
I'll be sending pics of my tank as soon as a get time to shoot some good pics, and will be bothering you all with stupid questions in the meantime!
