Has anyone ever seen an inaccurate internal mercury glass type thermometer? When raising temp to treat ick, the water felt warm at 88-90 degrees. A few weeks later, the water didn't feel as warm at 88-90? Any ideas?

Sadly nothing last forever, including heaters and thermometers. I always have a backup of both for occasions just like yours. The first thing to check is your heater. maybe it is not putting out the heat you are requiring. Some heaters have a hard time staying above 86 degrees.

This is not going to help much so if some one out there knows of an accurate thermometer please post. I have three digital thermometers one mercury. None of them read the same and the hardest to read is the most accurate. Many read 4 degree difference. Is there a digital out there that is accurate?

After reading positive reviews, I got this one and I am very happy with it:

I'm using one of those inferred guns now. I trust aquarium thermometers about as much as I trust heaters.

just look up inferred guns. tho it looks like every time u want to check u gotta stick it in your tank. and not the 24/7 in your tank therms.

most all of them are off a few degrees especially the lasers. the ones i found to be the closest to very expensive thermometers are $10.00 ones found in kitchen supplies in walmart. best to not worry about what the exact temp, don't matter.

Makes a big difference especially when treating and raising temps for meds. Eg. So I have two digital thermometers in one tank one reads 84 the other reads 89 which one is accurate? How do I determine heat? Lets say I want to raise temp to 90 for ich treatment I will either cook them or I will under temp them leaving the treatment a little less then desirable. Accurate is usual more desirable unless you know your thermometers error and can add or subtract the degrees needed to come up with a desirable accurate temp.

I have 3 of these - 1 for each tank & one for the water barrel. I find them very accurate & they read TDS too.

Where did you purchase and how much? Does the TDS need calibration?

Here is a good TDS meter with a built in Thermometer (only reads Celsius). I have had mine for 3 years and TDS and temp has not needed calibration as of yet. I know this because my second (backup) TDS meter reads the same.

Now, for my TDS/PH/Temp meter, also from Hanna, I have replaced the PH probe twice. But the TDS and temp still hold well.

I am looking for an alternative PH meter. (not that I rely on PH as much as I do TDS)

I have 3 thermometers in my 125 + 30 gal refugium and I have them all turned up as high as they can go but the temp never rises above 80???
