I've had a large piece of driftwood in my tank for about a year...when cleaning out the tank, I noticed that it seems to be decomposing at the ends a bit and there are brown "particles" all over the bottom of the tank from it. I hate to get rid of it, but want to make sure that its safe to keep with baby discus. Should I keep it or throw it in my other tank (I have a 120 gal non-discus tank)? I'm planning a bare bottom tank and don't have much in the way of decorations, so I'd like to keep it if it's safe.

See if you can some how cut off the bad areas? It should still be good.

You could put it in a tub of water, and use a stiff brush to scrub it down, knocking all the loose particles off.
