So 99% done with plumbing, glued everything. Adding a ball valve on return pump on right and an adapter on drain line to do WC's...Getting my live rock and live sand Wedn. to get everything going...

Looks like its coming together. So you turn a valve to drain the water (3 valves)? Where does it go?

the 3 ball valves are to control flow on the closed loop system. The drain will go where there is a T on right side connected to the durso drain coming from overflow box. Putting a valve and a water hose connections to hook hose to and run to the yard. Going to have this system setup for little to no hands in the tank..Putting in the valve today.

Troy, tank looks great. I love the closed loop and how all the plumbing will be hidden in your live rock. Are you using a skimmer? If so what kind and Size? I love marine and Reef tanks. Had a few myself anything from a 50 Gal. Reef c/w 50 Gal. sump to a 375 Gal. wil a total volume of 600 gallon. Keep us posted on the progress.

I think a Reef Octopus 250 skimmer would work perfectly.

Nice build Troy. Should be plenty of current and I like that you can dial it back a little if you need to. It may take you a while to fill the tank but will be awesome when all together. There is a place in South Florida who maintain a nice collection of Florida zoos and ricordia if you are interested.

I really like those lights. FYI, there's a new monitoring system that I've been reading about called Mindstream Aquarium Monitor. So far, I've read good things about it. I'm past my my reef days, but if I weren't it might be something I would have looked into.

Thanks Pat, Yeah I like the closed loop, keeps it clean and hidden and no back syphon. Of coarse I have check valve on return on the back. I have the live sand already, have a guy in Tarboro NC about 40 minutes that owns his own saltwater company. He actually helped ATM (the show Tanked) setup the episode in Raleigh NC called The Cow Fish restuarant, did a cow fish theme. He is coming Thursday with his truck to deliver the live rock and water. So I should have everything running then. He is bringing the same bacteria they used on Tanked to get it cycled. He is going to sell me everything wholesale, which helps alot. lol He has fish, corals, clean up crews, etc.... going to do LPS setup.

yeah I read an article on this and has not been proven to be effective. Great concept though would have thought that apex or RK would have intergrated something like that in there systems, and they maybe working on it. Interested to see how it works out...

Are all the PVC pipes glued over the sump? Looks pretty rigid if you had to remove the sump tank for some emergent reason.
Love the lights. Looks like the start of a great reef. You could always dial back the out flow and add Discus:D

thanks, the only thing that would get in the way of taking out the sump for any reason is the drains into the skimmer but that is a quick cut and fix. that is an incredible pick..

I am far from a plumbing expert and I can't view the pics from work (Photobucket is blocked) but I would guess that a true union would take care of that.

troysdiiscus

Hey NAB yeah there are unions on all the 1 inch ball valves. There is also a union above the check valve above the sump so if I had to take out the sump, will not be an issue
