Hi All,

I'm the one that had the little Discus who would not eat. Well, she pulled through (barely) and is doing GREAT. Now I have a chance to purchase 2 full grown Discus that are about 2 years old. Are they harder to acclimate than babies?? My Ph is 7.6 and they are used to 7. Will this matter if I acclimate them slowly? They will go in the 47 bowfront with the small discus and other fish. Would really like your thoughts please.

U should be fine! Fish do better when you go up in PH than when you go down in PH. Just do the same as you are getting new fish and acclimate and quarantine. I recently got Discus that were in PH 8 to my water that the PH is 7.2-7.4 and their doing excellent. Just did the routine acclimation and then dumped them in the tank.

The ph will not bother them. As long as it is increasing you are fine. Normally it is a good idea to quarantine new fish to make sure they are healthy.

Thank you both. That is reassuring. Will acclimate using the drip method. I'm an hour away from where the Discus are. Will they be okay in the bags or should I get a bucket with air stone for the ride home? I could line the bucket with towels then use untreated plastic bag liner to make sure they can't get hurt. Or am I over doing it again......:)

They will be fine. I use the drop method. Just take the fish and put them in your tank. As long as your water is as warm or warmer and has a high ph they will be fine. I never use any of the water that they were transported in.

The drop method LOL!! I thought it was a typo until I finished reading. As you can probably tell, these fish scare the hell out of me....
