I got this wild from Mark back in February and it has just blossomed. It is a Pacoval and is a Alenquer region fish like the Cuipeua. I suspect this is a young male based on striations and body shape. It is still growing and not mature yet.

I received this wild from Kraig and he says it is a Cuipeau. It is a mature male and is better then three years of age.

This little red fish is a Curua, another Alenquer region fish and suspect it is a female based on color, size and shape.

Nice, really nice. My tank has no discus, only a few plecos. I miss the discus. I will be going wild when I finally make the move and get set back up. Pat it may be a year or more but when I'm ready I would love to get some fish from you.

Bill, if I have some F1s consider it done. I still have to learn to ship but have plenty of mentors who will help. I bet you are missing those flat round fish. Best of luck with moving and getting set back up.

Second Hand Pat
01-09-2014, 10:41 AM
Yes to both Rick. ATM I am growing the heckels out as they were sub-adults when I got them. They have grown quite a bit since I have them and are maturing nicely. I think a heckel to any Alenquer region wild (red based) will make a attraction natural cross and there are the three heckel crosses from Tara which could be a potential pairing.

I do realize the heckel to heckel is highly unlikely but hoping the magic Florida water will help...

The thread I linked in the above post...this is the water parameters under which his heckels spawned under. This is music to my ears as sounds like my situation :D

Hi guys,
First I want say thank you to everyone for the kind words. This event became very exciting for me and mi camera..LOL :D

I will keep posting pictures of them weekly.............

Some of you were asking about the water parameters , ok here they are:

The water parameters at the time of the spawning were pH 6.7, 84ºF and 22µS. Everything started after a 50% water change. My water comes from a well at 900µS, pH 8.5, hardness 12º

This water is processed by my RO system (900GPD) and the result is 22µS with a pH 6.5 and 0.5 Kh and Gh.

Alberto

At least six inches Coree.

dirtyplants

Forgive my ignorance here, but how big do they usually get? Do different wilds have different size limits?

Second Hand Pat
03-07-2014, 09:00 AM
Coree, this is my best guess. Some wild discus populations are known for their large size and many of the larger discus collected go to the people who consistently pay a premium for the larger, nicer discus.

dirtyplants
03-07-2014, 03:36 PM
Discus can grow up to 15cm and, in captivity, can live for over 30 years. They can start breeding at the age of 12-15 months years and will form a mated pair to care for their young

Found this, wouldn't it be really nice if we could keep these guys for 30 years.
