Since my heckels are in with the pair which has formed between the Trombeta and one of the Cuipeua females the heckels have developed darker tails and fins. It seems like the sexually active fish have juiced up the heckels. I have seem two occurances of a heckel bowing to the Trombeta and heckels staring at wood. I am not sure if all this means anything but interesting...

While this picture is a bit out of focus the heckel on the left was wood staring.

Coree, a heckel to heckel pairing is the holy grail to a wilds keeper. It is the very hardest pairing to achieve.

Why is it so hard compared to others? Are heckels not attracted to the heckel bar. Lol

If people knew why it was so hard then people would understand how to entice the heckel female to spawn. The impression I have is people think they need a soft, very acidic water to maintain and breed heckels. I suspect the heckel live in this type of water during the dry season. I want to know how the fish live in the wet season. I suspect as you enter the wet season the water cools, the ph raises and the food supply increases. Finding the trigger is the secret I think.

So Pat have you tried lowing the water and pH and then through a trickle system raise the water, and the pH, and cool the temps???

I have not Coree as the heckels are not mature enough.
