it can take like 1.5-2 years to grow out a really fish.. can start out with a spawn of 300 hundred.. CULL all the fish with the qualities breeder does not want in the fish line.. all the food feed everyday.. water changes everyday.. sometimes twice a day.. get rid of the slow growers.. more food.. more water.. time is ticking..

discus are not like oscars.. where EVERY FRY grows out to large adults.. its like an art form to grow out fish like this... genetics also helps..

so as pat said, Quality and Size.. its not cheap to do this at all.. HENCE.. the market prices
