We have our 120G in our bedroom so a quiet pump is a requirement! I was using a Rio Hyper Flow HF20 (1395 GPH) but that thing is noisy. I replaced it with 2 Hydor L40 pumps (740 GPH each) & don't hear them in the stand (Hydor does not seem to publish a head height flow chart, ours is about 5' and seems to have a good turnover rate). The air pump & overflow are the only things that make any noise & they are pretty low.

With the home built water wand & combining the 2 pumps into the 1 wand, this setup is sending 1 gallon every 10 - 11 seconds (would be higher if each was flowing into the tank as the 1" tubing I think is still a little restrictive being combined into 1 fitting) so we are turning the tank about 3x an hour through the sump. Also have a Sunsun 404B canister filter, so plenty of filtration.
