Bump, as I am wondering the same exact thing. What plants would work the best with no CO2 to remove nitrates?

I just float watersprite in my refugium, makes cleaning the sump easy.

Any chance you have a picture of your setup? And what effect did you notice on nitrates?

I'll take a picture tomorrow during my water change. I can't say there's been a huge drop in nitrates since I change 50% every other day and I've had them in the sump prior to adding my discus. It would be nice to see the nitrate results from someone who added them after they had discus though so it would be great if you did and tracked the results.

Looks good, I will give that a shot. How much light do you think they need?

I use one of those tube lights from an old tank lid and leave it on 24/7.

Once they take off you will notice a big difference in your nitrates

With nitrates, the lower the better so since I already had the plants I figured it couldn't hurt to add them.
