View Full Version : Should I let Dark Angel and Blue Diamond breed?

I have a jumbo Dark Angel and a Blue Diamond that are starting to clean surfaces and getting excited. Is this a good combination in anyone's experience and is it worth allowing them to breed and what would the fry look like if they hatched. I think the female is the BD. Both from Hans months ago. Thanks for any opinions. Rufus

Rick (Nc0gnet0) paired up a Blue SS and a Dark Angel one time a while back, but I don't remember hearing what ever came of it. No harm in letting them go once, as long as you're willing to cull the lot if they don't turn out well.

Hopefully Rick or someone will pass by this way.

Yes, I was hoping Rick would be passing my thread. He seems to know a lot about genetics. I PM'ed Hans to ask the question as well since I purchased the fish from him. I am willing to cull if they fry are not good looking but I would rather not put myself or the fish through the process if that is going to be an issue. thanks for the reply. Rufus

Confirming the fish and giving them a little experience wouldn't be the worst, but I hear you about putting yourself through the process if they'd all end up being culls. A lot of work for that result. I'm interested in seeing what Rick or someone has to say about this pairing, so I'll be keeping an eye on this thread. I know they are pb and non-pb, but curious how the BD aspect of this plays into things. Good luck.

How much more documentation could you need?

That's what I get for looking in your Homesteader section. I thought you had done that combination.

FWIW, all the fry from this crossing looked the same, only one phenotype. So, if you like the outcome (some do, some don't) of the fish above there won't be any culls. Now, if you don't like the outcome, then they would ALL be culls.

I must be getting really old. I remember that thread of Rick's!!! I even responded to that thread!!!! Dah!!!!! Okay, that certainly answers my question. If anything happens I'll let everyone know. Rick's contest fish were stunningly beautiful. I don't expect that I could ever do the job he has done but if the opportunity presents itself I will try. At least I have a reference point and someone to ask if and when it does happen.
