Bought he/she 2 weeks ago from a local breeder along with two others. According to many people here the other two were badly stunted, but this PB got mixed answers. It is 2" TL. Thanks

How badly? With good care, what would be an achievable size? Also how can you tell it's stunted?

Doesn't looks that badly stunted to me, how old is this? Still looks baby and with good food/wc, can reach a decent potential imo.

Yes ... by the body shape, eye, and color ... no way the baby at that size has good color like that unless he/she is stunted

I believe 4 months since the color of the fish ... and 4 months, that size -> stunted

It is also very shy, and doesn't have much of an appetite. Could that be due to it being stunted, or more so because of it being the lone discus.

Also, what do you think it's growth potential is now that the fish is stunted?

2inches in 4months doesn't sounds right. but the discus thumb rule - good protein food/more wc/gene of the parents can given some decent growth rate.

Obviously you are very concerned with stunted fish, don't blame you - gotta start with good stock to end up with good fish, but it's also important to keep in mind that at 2" you have more opportunity to stunt the fish than the seller did in the short time they raised it. Going BB is a great start, will need high protein feedings daily, with big water changes to go along with it, any other fish in the tank are taking food from the discus and increasing the bioload, so you would have better success with just the small discus you want to grow out in the tank.

Yes like said above it is very stunted, unfortunately. Take the advice above. Hth.
