I was going to use a 100 % polyester fiber fill that my wife uses for her quilts as additional filter material in my hob along with 3 hydro 5'S . Further reading on the label says it's resinated which as far as I can find out means it's treated to be somewhat fire proof. Do you think this is safe to use?

It's not safe for aquarium use. I use Morning Glory poly fiber fill that you can buy at Walmart (the light green bag and hypoallergenic) for about $4 for a 20 oz bag.

Polyester quilt batting (filter foam) is not safe IF it's treated with & contains any additives, fire retardents, or other chemicals.
However, there are many stores, particularly discount fabric stores that sell it in pure, untreated form, which is usually stated on the packaging. It's a great water clarifier as well as housing for bio-filtration bb.
I've used it for years in all my filters and love it.
