If I want to keep other fish with Discus ie cories, kribensis, cardinal tetras, etc. Will they be alright in a BB tank or should I use some pool filter sand in it? It is a 120gal that I am going to convert from a reef to Discus tank.

It is so much easier to keep your tank clean w/bb. No place in the tank for contaminants to hide. From my recliner, I can't see the bottom of my tank anyway.

for the sake of a contrary opinion, some of us on here like a substrate, although it is true, a BB would be easier to clean. It depends on what you like. It sounds like the fish will be ok either way!!!

For many fish it doesn't matter one way or the other. Some fish though sift through the substrate so not to have one would not provide the optimum environment. It is about doing the research on which fish you intend to keep. Many Geophagus sp for example would require a sand substrate and personally I'd never keep corries in a BB tank other than maybe qt as they too like to sift the sand . It is about matching the requirements of the fish and understanding when something is important or not.
