View Full Version : Discus tank revamp

Just renovated the discus tank again, and this time, removed all the substrate where the discuses like to hang out. It is going to be even easier to vacuum away waste. Some of the gravel are turning a dirty yellow and green due to algae growth. Removed those as well and topped up with some new white gravel.
Cories are still able to forage in areas where there are gravel. I think this is as good as it gets for me short of going barebottom tank.

looks neat and simple.

Just wanted to check if you get algea growth on the anubias and the fern. If so what do you do to remove them

Thanks. I do get algae on the anubias, since they grow so slowly. There are 6 SAE and 6 otos in the tank to clear the regular algae. But sometimes, if the algae is too persistent, I will remove the anubias mounted on woods, and dunk it in a pail with hydrogen peroxide and water.

I really like the scape, very clean. Do you only have sand in half of the tank ?

Thanks. I am using gravel, and there is only gravel in 2/3 of the tank.
