so I use Python siphon gravel tubes (30") with 1/2" ID tube and python siphon starter at the end.

I also have quick disconnect between gravel tube and vinyl hose so I can use different gravel tube for each tanks and yet use same hose. its only for siphon and not return.

however, the siphon flow is so slow.
whats the best way to increase siphon flow so I can suction debris off bottom fast?

Larger pumps is your faster solution.

rick, I need to siphon debris. I got one with pump from jehmco but that only drains water out.
so need gravel tube. any ideas?

Why can't you attach the gravel tube to a pump inline?

What pump would you suggest ?

A Wayne transfer pump will be best bet for faster siphon. They have them at home depot

A pump that powerful would suck up all his gravel. Suctioning debris from gravel is a slow job. That's a big reason that we are all BB.

Yeh that's a good point I just figure everyone has bb tanks. Ignore my suggestion if there's gravel or sand

I like sand because everything sits on top of it and then you just hover a hose over the top to suck the debris off. The more narrow the hose you use, the stronger the suction will be. I bought 1/2" PVC and attached it to 1/2" clear hose and I manually vacuum off my sand with the 1/2" hose. It works great in my really deep tanks (150 and 210 gallon) where standard gravel vacs/siphons wouldn't even pick up feces from the bottom because the siphon flow was so weak. I do suck up a bit of sand, but I just siphon into a bucket so I can dump the sand back into the tank when I'm done.

:bandana: This is not great but does a decent job. "T" http://www.waterpumpsdirect.com/Wayne-PC2-Water-Pump/p2531.html?utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=%2Bwayne%20%2Bpc2&utm_campaign=models

I use 1" inner diameter clear vinyl tubing, works great and gives you fast suction.

In the middle of my Python there is a valve connection that turns it on and off that also restricts flow. If you eliminate it you will just have a straight through tube. That may have too much suction for you. I did not take mine apart but I imagine that you can take the Python apart and drill the hole wider.

I plan to use quiet one 4000 pump which pumps 990 gph but with height and restriction should be not too fast.
I have pfs and it wont be siphoned unless very strong siphon is there.

If its gravel you can still use a pump just need to put a strainer basket on the end, making sure the openings in the basket are smaller than the gravel itself.

Double hose size=much faster siphon speed. I use 1" id for filling my tank and its lightning fast.

I could not find a fast way to clean the sand, so I took it out. A good self priming pump 620 gph or faster and 1"id hose would be pretty fast without sand.

Another option (kinda pricey) would be something like the Ehiem Qick Vac gravel cleaner. These things new are around $55 USD & say they are fully submersible but one I got years ago is not as there is a leak & water gets into the battery compartment (works ok in a shallower tank vs out 26" deep tank). This way you are only cleaning the substrate & not removing any water.

I tried it all. But best is python siphon via water pressure.
Altho it wastes water.

Best is a large diameter hose, you can just skim it over the substrate. I use to do this with my shrimp tanks when I had Amazonia substrate. The problem was sucking up shrimplets so I had to be very careful

That's what I explained here, it's worked great for me. Fast drain and fill :D
