View Full Version : Poret foam drying?

Hi, just a quick question. Can a mature poret foam stay above water level for an hour or so and still remain effective? I'm trying to upgrade my sump design to incorporate an auto water change system. The water in the sump will drain and then slowly fill up. The upright poret foam dividers in my sump may remain out of water for an hour or so while the system slowly fills up. Would this period of immersion knock back the beneficial bacteria? Or would they still be okay protected by the biofilm around them? I don't expect the foam dividers to completely dry out within this time period but I can't be sure. I'll be grateful if someone with experience could shed some light on this matter. Cheers. Tolga

Hi, sorry to insist on this one, but I would really appreciate some advice as I might change my design if it is believed that the beneficial bacteria may suffer as a result of an hour long period of semi dryness.
Cheers

The bacteria should be fine. Keep them damp and they will be good exposed to air.
