When running your AquaClear filters do you run them at full output or do you throttle them back some. I know it may depend on the size of your discus. I have a 55 that I setup here and was wondering if an Aquaclear 70 and no sponge filters will be enough filtration for 5- 3" discus. Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA

I run it at the low end on all mine.

I run all my AC at the max...the fish get used to that.
AC 70 will be good enough for 5-3" discus in 55 gallon tank along with daily water change for them

I have a 55 gallon with six adult discus and have two AquaClear Filters on this tank: a 70 and a 110. I run them at max.

I have AC's on two tanks, my 40 gallon quarantine tank with one 6" discus and a 55 gallon tank with 6 large discuss. I run both at full speed. I also have sponge filters in both tanks.
Water changes every other day on both.

I would go with the 110. You can run it on low. But, adjust it up as they grow.

Run it on high and put a sponge over the intake. Make sure to clean the intake sponge daily. If you like it is OK to clean the intake sponge only in tap water. The sponge inside the filter should only be cleaned in tank water. If you use tap water for that sponge you may uncycle your tank.

Mine is on max it doesn't bother them but I have pre filters so there's no chance of them getting stuck to the filter intake if they're small
