Sump Mechanical Filtration - Filter sock

Hi,

Is a filter sock connected to the return pipe enough as mechanical filtration? Or do you recommend adding some foam/sponges too?

Filter socks get dirty real fast, so diy basket to poly fabric for mechanical filter. Like to enjoy my tank rather being down on my knees every few days with that sock thingy...
