Hoping I'm seeing the first of some pairing behavior in my 220 Wild Red tank. The solid is a Lago Solomon and the semi royal is a Cuipeua. I'm thinking the Lago Solomon is a female and the Cuipeua is a male. The Cuipeua is keeping to the left side of the tank most of the time and the Solomon is spending some time on both sides of the tank but primarily on the left. Everyone else is keeping to the right. The Cuipeua isn't interrelating with the other discus in the tank, only the Solomon. The Solomon is the Alpha of the tank. When the others venture into the left half of the tank the Solomon is chasing them back to the right. The Cuipeua is nudging the Solomon in the side occasionally. Hoping to see this progress into more............

Maybe Larry, when my breeding wilds get serious their tails turn dark. If I was a betting woman my money is on the Cuipeua being female. Either way crossing fingers for you.

What would your bet be on the Solomon?

Male :)...based on a partial halo, striations and size. Female on the Cuipeua based on lack of striations and a almost fully enclosed halo. Best guess of course. You will know you are cooking once you see black tails and bowing. :)

Ah ha. The Solomon is the one that swims off to the left in the first of the video. The one with the full halo and only a couple of striations right behind the head. The cuipeua is the one with the partial halo and more striations.I think we are calling the same ones male and female.

Yes we are Larry :D. I will admit that I get a better sense of gender by watching them. Remember the red female I bought to the show. She and the large Heckel I was going to bring to the show are hanging around together.

That would be a pairing I would like to see.

It would be cool...a natural red form heckel cross.
