Here is what was outside our front door a couple hours ago, 5:30pm, getting dark. 6 Does and 3 half grown fawns, not a buck in sight. I took this through 2 glass doors, in low light, so I guess it came out pretty clear anyway. They were about 40 feet from the house, and stayed at least 10 min. There are lots of deep woods in our neighborhood but we have never seen so many all at once in our yard. Every year I always hope that our deer don't get shot. Hunting season starts soon here. And yes, I do know there are too many deer, especially here in NC. But we enjoy our deer.

Nice Barb, we have wild chickens....ie turkeys. Have them year round now.

That's so cool Barb. Deer used to herd up in the cornfields each winter at our previous house. It was a sight I never got tired of.

I looked out in the front yard last evening just before dark, now there are 10 in the herd, a new one must have joined them!

I know what you're thinking, John - But I think you'd be waiting for a buck to show up among that pack ! LOL
I'm a game bird guy, so I was thinking the same thing about Pat's wild chickens (turkeys) - we have so very few of them here in the prairies of Canada. Pat probably has them in her back yard from time to time.

Thanks for looking at our deer everyone! I know there are way too many of them, and they do eat lots that I plant, but I just love watching them. We also have many black bear in NC, most of them on the coast, here. But we have not seen one yet, just footprints in the mud down the street from us.
