I'm new on the site ,first posting. I am wondering if anyone has used a fuval canister filter for a sump?

Do you men plumbing the input and output lines of the canister to the overflow and return of a tank plumbed for a sump?

Yes I want to plumb my sump in at a different elevation than my tank using a Fluval canister filter.

different elevation? Which fluval canister are we talking about? an fx5?

They are not really made to pump against a head pressure like that, you can expect greatly reduced flow and difficulty in priming. A return pump through a filter like an ocean clear would serve you much better.

If you want to put thé intake in the sump and thé output in the tank it will not work, canister filters are simply not designed to operate like that

I have not done this with my Fluval but I have with other canister filters. It worked fine.
