Dear Simply Discus Members,

I’ve got several fry from Rafflesia Male and Penang Eruption Female, both from Kenny C. I bought several fish of the same strain hoping to get a pair. But these 2 just hit it off; there was no way stopping them from spawning. Anyway, I was curious what the combination will look like, so I reserve the most promising 2 from the previous spawn, which are now 6 month old. (See pix)

The new batch is 2 months old, 1.75” - 2.0” $ 18.00 each.
For Simply Discus Member, 5 for $75.00 or 8 for $100.00

Available for Pickup in Bergenfield, NJ or Ship via Overnight Priority Express from USPS or FedEx Priority Overnight.
Send me a PM or email to rtteves@gmail.com if interested.

I would definitely consider grabbing some of these once the next batch is available. Although, I'm a little confused on what the offspring will look like when adults. I assume the larger fish in your photos are the parents? Do you have any images of the offspring as they've grown a bit more?

Iksdrinker, most of the new batch for this month: February fry were sold out over the weekend before i could post it in SD.
I will have a younger batch that will be ready by mid March. Hopefully this time I could post it in SD before they are gone. i'll ask some pictures from the older batch how they turn out. Will post it once I get hold of them. Thanks !

Buckshot, yes Mate ! There might be some hobby breeders in Australia who might post their fry soon. Wish them luck !

I had the pleasure of meeting Roland and got 4 of these fish about a month ago. Here are a few recent shots of the fish which I believe are now about 3 months old or so. The photos aren't the greatest; but gives a good idea of what they look like right now.

Hi ED, Got your PM and email. Yes, Friday pickup is fine ! See you soon.

LKSDRINKER, thank you for posting pictures of the Juveniles. They are starting to get their spots and color. I am also curious how the 2 crosses would look like when adult size. Please do post some pictures of them as they grow bigger. They have beautiful erect dorsal fins. They got good genetics to begin with. Both from Kenny/ Forrest Stock.

They are beautiful fish Roland; and those pictures really dont do them any justice! I am however a bit surprised at the amount of peppering I'm seeing considering they are in a bare bottom tank that had no background. Just about a day or so before I took that picture I slid in a piece of white cardboard behind the tank as a background to see if that might change anything.

I purchased a batch from Roland back in Feb and figured I would update on the progress of this cross. The fish are starting to color up but still have a ways to go. I ended up with about 50% snakeskin and 50% wild type which I think is what would be expected given the parents. Some are almost perfectly free of pepper and some are moderately peppered, again as I had expected from a PB non-PB cross. They are very nice looking fish and I would suggest to anyone to purchase from Roland as he was very professional and a genuinely nice guy to talk to.

Here are a few pictures though I warn when you put a camera in my hand nothing good comes of it.

The spots came in first and over the last week or so the white/blue body color is starting to fill in nicely

The snakeskins would not stand still for me to get a decent picture. They are coloring up more slowly and just now starting to get their spots.

Looking good, in the mean time I'll try to get the tank ready and convert my planted tank to meet the requirment of Discus water parameters. This is what I'm planning to have, please let me know if this will work:

75 gallons
PH 6.2-6.6 since I'm using aquasoil as an substrate
Plants low-med, injected co2 (very low), I could stop using it.
Temp: 82F
Planning to do water change 50% once a week, do I need to do at least 2-3 times a week?

Rteves
08-31-2015, 11:15 AM
Hi Superflame, Your parameters are fine, ph doesn't need to go that low. My fish are used to 7.2 to 6.8 ph. All my tanks are bare bottom, you might want to read more on Planted Tanks for discus on the forum page. http://forum.simplydiscus.com/forumdisplay.php?37-Planted-Show-Tanks-and-Biotopes
This gives you some tips/ ideas on how much water changes you can do on planted tanks. It really depends on how much fish you put in the tank and how often you feed them.

Jeff, the last photos were taken 3 days ago. The parents are both Red Strain so the fry would definitely be having red coloration with some white spots/ patterns on them. I tried to grow some fry to bigger size so I can see how they look like but every time someone visit my fish room they end up buying them. I will post a "Not for Sale" sign on the tank this time ! :)
