I've come across mixed results about the best temperature to keep discus at, ranging from 88-82F. I would like to know your opinions about the temp you keep your discus at. In the past I kept mine at 86F, although I'm beginning to wonder if a slightly lower temp may be better?

I'm still pretty new but from what I've seen all the veteran discus keepers say 82-84 degrees is best. I keep my tank at 83.

I'm going to quote John Nicolsen and others here on simplydiscus. 82F is the sweet spot to keep discus at.

I know this is old post. Just wants to say thanks everyone for the info on this. I have been looking into what is the perfect temp for my tank. I guess I have mine in perfect temp then. Currently it about around 82 - 83.

Depending on your goal, I kept my breeder at 86F for 2 week before breeding them to increase their appetite and fatten them up. Once I move them to breeding tank I decrease the temp to 82F. 84F for juvies and other adults at 82F.

Nice to know. So, consistently keeps temp at 82F for adult and 84F for juvies, right? Well since I mine are about 2.5" (more or less), are they considered juvies, right? At what point are they considered an adult?

Prior to getting involved with this forum I had always kept them at 86, old school Discus info. commonly found in many books and magazine articles from the 90's.

At this point I keep them at 82 which I'm told is less conducive to promoting bacterial infections. It also helps keep my electricity bill down.
