I have a display tank, empty of fish. I have removed discus which were infected with tapeworm and now wish to restock. Is there any way of satrisfatorily ridding the tank of tapeworm eggs without dismantling the whole thing and starting again from scratch?

Generally, with only a few exceptions the eggs of tapeworms are not going to cause any harm to Discus, they need to be eaten by something else first, like a copepod or snail..Then the fish gets tape worms when they eat that. If you have no hosts for the first stage of tapeworms to develop you should be fairly safe from re-infestation.

In reality though Tapeworms in the fish are very easy to treat. If I had to have one parasite to deal with, thats the one I would pick.

Thanks so much for the info. I will seek out some of the praziquantel, though I suspect UK restrictions are such that this may be difficult. Hope to record results later.
Cheers.

try your local veterinarians , its a common medicine for tapeworms in cats and dogs, under the name droncit here in the US.
Maybe look for Biltricide?http://www.eurodrugstore.eu/anthelmintic__41__en/biltricide__470.html

something like that...just be sure its pure praziquantel.
