I need a new camera to photograph my discus! What digital cameras do you recommend under $200?

Sorry Mauro, I did not see this thread nor did I get an alert. My apologies. It is going to be tough finding a digital camera at that budget new. You may have to look at used. Do you mind purchasing used?

Another option if you are on budget would be to use your phone with additional lens like olloclip.

Canon wise the Rebel line is a good starter into the DSLR world. You can find Rebel kits (Body and a lens) for around $400, double your budget but it might be a bit tough to find something worthwhile for $200 past your camera phone (which are drastically improved these days). Some of the powershot line like the G7X are nice, but again more than $200.

Used might be your best bet to hit that budget.

I would recommend you look for used cameras at www.keh.com Pentax, Canon, or Nikon. Or look for Minolta or Sony as both of these take the same lenses (Sony purchased Minolta).

But to get in to a DSLR camera with interchangeable lenses you will probably need to increase your budget even for a used camera setup.

Now if you are willing to go used and point and shoot Canon has some point and shoot cameras that allow you to shoot in manual mode and change the settings (if I only had $200.00 budget I would go for a high end Canon point and shoot). With a point and shoot you can't buy lenses as it comes with a zoom lens permanently installed, but you will be able to take some great photos with a camera like this. I have seen some incredible shots taken with a high end Canon point and shoot that were printed at 48 inches wide and were very nice.
