These are my first attempts at macro photography and it is harder then it seems. The camera was handheld and it was windy. Working with the depth of focus was interesting.

This spider in its web was about an inch.

Love the spider and moth shots but over all they are all good.

Pat,
First time out with extension tubes and hand held.. You did fine.. When you have the tripod and try again you will definitely see things improving.. You'll be able to stop the camera lens down small and keep it steady,.. That will help alot with Depth of Field. Its a challenge but it teaches you much!

Did you do any post processing like sharpening?

oh and a quick note... when you do this with the tripod.. if you have a cable release , be sure to use it. If you don't switch the camera to timer... most usually have a 2 sec option. Its perfect for taking the picture without introducing camera shake.

The spider is my favorite Ricardo. May go try him again with a little sunlight later today.

Al, I have used the timer option to take family pictures at Christmas time. Tell me about the cable release, is that part of the tripod?

Pat,
They work with you camera and basically are a cable that connects to the camera and to a switch...

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?&N=4077634555+4095985225

they allow you to trigger the camera by a cable which removes alot of the shake from pressing the button.

When you don't have a cable like the one I posted a pic of... set the cameras timer on the shortest delay... its usually ~2 seconds. It accomplishes the same thing.

Thanks Al, I can see where the cable is a better option especially if you are waiting for something at just the right moment.

Pat it is also great to have one for things like long exposures ( like the silky moving water pics)

I went back out as the lighting was a little better. Laid in the grass/dirt but got a bit of refinement on the pictures.

Much better Pat!

Tripod, ground, fences, rock walls, car windows...anything that can stabilize the camera and reduce shake helps!

Thanks Al, I never thought I had an issue with camera shake until the lens is just a few inches away from the subject lol.

Thanks Ricardo, I thought the ants added a little interest to the flower. I must have a dozen pictures of that flower.
