Getting a little out of my photographic comfort zone, I had a chance to see and shoot the fly-over of vintage WW II war planes in Washington DC (Fri and Sat). My hope was to capture the planes over the Mall, Lincoln, Washington Memorials and the Capitol Building. But the fly-over was midday with very bright conditions and DC summer haze. Plus the planes really did not get low enough to capture the shot. So it was more like birds in flight!
Sat. the planes were supposed to be exhibited on the ground and the Air and Space Museum, Dulles, but bad weather prevented them from flying in. Still there was one plane and some period displays and of course the museum.
Lots of images:

Excellent! Love military history from this time period! These are great given the haze and them moving fairly fast I'm sure. Nice and sharp. Side note, sure is a lot of construction going on in Washington....or refurbishing.

These look like P-40 Warhawks to me.

P-51 Mustang is the bottom plane in this photo....just for a visual reference for anyone.

Thanks,
Matt you are correct. (I looked at my ref. again.) I was going by the silhouette "map" that was handed out. I know nothing about planes!.

Awesome pictures Stan plus I love the old warbirds. There is a huge event in Florida called Fun and Sun with lots of vintage planes on the ground and in flybys. Awesome event.

Nice pics, Stan. Too bad I missed it. I recently got back into model building and just finished building a B-17. It would have been very cool to see it flying.

Yun, it was big and slow but really cool to see. I kept thinking how much fun the guys in the planes must have been having. (Except for one that had to make an emergency landing at Reagan!)

I guess that's why they call it a flying fortress. ;) I painted mine a different color scheme than ones in your picture. I used olive darb.
