Hi,

I am building a custom made tank with the following dimensions: 59" by 20" by 31".

I bought an aquarium mat for under the tank, this one - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221626716808

The tank is going to be very heavy since it's quite high. Do you think that the thickness of the mat is enough? Or should it be thicker?

thanks

What is the purpose of the mat?

Just in case the surface under the tank is not perfect, to keep the aquarium even and level.

Is the stand set up where you want to display it ? If so, take a level and that should let you know if your floor is even.

The mat will also help if there are any imperfections on the surface you put the tank on and help prevent from there being pressure points. As far as thickness goes, in my opinion it should be fine. If the surface the aquarium sits on is good and your tank was built properly a mat is not needed so any mat is just extra protection. I don't think you would want it too thick either.
