Mike, that the picture Chris posted with the blue arrow pointing to the filmstrip, there is a little square to the right of that. Do you see that square?

Show none of the icons are showing for you in the Quick Reply box. Is this happening in other browsers?

From the picture you posted it appeared you were using Windows Internet Explorer. I had some icon weirdness Sunday and it was suggested I clear my history and cache and that fixed the problem.

Mike,

Click on Settings in the upper right corner of the forum, then choose General Settings from the menu on the left.

Scroll all the way down to almost the bottom of the page under the Miscellaneous Options section. There are three options for Message Editor Interface: Enhanced Interface, Basic Editor, and Standard Editor. If Basic is selected, that is why you are not seeing any of the posting buttons. You need to select Standard Editor, then hit the Save Changes button at the very bottom right of the page.

Once you do this, the posting buttons should appear in both the Quick Reply box and when creating a new thread.

For future reference, you can also embed YouTube videos without needing the buttons. You simply put
tags around the YouTube URL. The button is a merely a shortcut that does this for you but it can be done manually if need be. It will look like this:

[VIDEO]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqFghNqkLp8

Which will then give you this in your actual post:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqFghNqkLp8

Please be aware that currently, YouTube is generating links that begin with https. This is a security feature that YouTube has implemented. Unfortunately the forum software has not caught up with this, so for the video links embedded here on Simply to work, you must remove the s so that the video link just starts with http://. If you try to post a video link and it doesn't work, that is most likely why.

That still didn't fix it? Given that it happens across two platforms (Android OS and Windows/IE), it's more than likely an account setting than an issue with your browser. Make sure you have it set to Standard Editor, then clear your browser history and refresh the page. A hard refresh may work -- go into a thread and press Ctrl+F5 to force a refresh of the page. See if the icons appear on the Quick Reply bar at the bottom.

You can also try to update your Java on the computer by going to java.com and confirming you have the latest version installed. This still wouldn't explain the issue with the phone. I just tested the site on two PCs using IE11, Chrome, and Firefox, and I use the site daily on my smartphone. I don't have the issue anywhere.

Mike,

Get rid of the s in https:// at the beginning of your link.

YouTube is now using https to be more secure but I found out a few weeks ago that it does not play nicely with forum software. It's not just at Simply -- I haven't been able to post videos in several forums. So it will look like this:

http://youtu.be/o1Fzi_CWV9U

http://youtu.be/o1Fzi_CWV9U

I will edit my previous post to mention that in case other people have a similar issue.

Mike, did you go to java.com and make sure you had the latest version of Java installed on your PC?

It's entirely possible the work network is blocking certain things required by Simply to load properly, like Javascript or certain aspects of HTML5. As for the phone, I really can't say. It was normal on my old Android phone but I don't have that anymore. Sorry I couldn't help out more.
