Is LDPE flexible plastic safe? I purchased a 110 gallon livestock trough made out of LDPE flexible plastic to keep in my basement and use to aerate water since my pH is high out of the tap. I just want to be sure the plastic won't leach anything harmful into the water. The label has no mention of the plastic being treated with antifungals and the website says it can be used as a pond or containment tank.

Dan,

If you can believe what you read on the web I found the following:

PLASTIC #4: LOW DENSITY POLYETHYLENE (LDPE)
Common uses: dry cleaning bags, produce bags, trash can liners, food storage containers.

LDPE are safe, non-leaching plastics. Flexible, impact-resistant and microwave-proof, it's dishwasher-safe and able to withstand temperatures from -148 to 176° F (-100 to 80° C). Safe for use with food and beverages.

At http://www.reuseit.com/product-materials/learn-more-the-7-most-common-plastics-and-how-they-are-typically-used.htm#Plastic%204

Thanks Ron! That goes with what I found online (which MUST be true), so I'll keep the tank.
