I'm still wishing for a cheap as dirt speed light for my Nikon D80. (it's just a small wish, though.)

Liz, what do you plan on using it for?

Just to put the device on the top of an aquarium so that when I take a pic the background comes out dark so the fish show up better.

Liz have a look here..

http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showthread.php?127543-Fish-Photo-Guide

You can do as I did. Cheap old flash.. $15,cheap flash trigger. Absolutely no need for a fancy expensive speedlight to take good pics of our fish.. These are what I use on my good pics here.
..
Search on ebay "Nikon D80 flash trigger"

It takes a a few mins to get the right exposure but not a problem. I prefer the film age flash units as they have alot of manual controls.

I looked and found this https://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Receivers-RF-602-Wireless-Flash-Trigger-Nikon-D90-D7200-D3100-D3200-D80-D3300/254274224028?hash=item3b33ecbf9c:g:-XYAAMXQlgtRv90Q but I don't see the part that has the flash to put over the tank. I think I'm smart enough to do this with out instruction from a real person.

Thats the trigger.. one part goes on the camera hot shoe (where the flash mtds)another goes on the flash.

Alls you need now is a nikon flash that works with the D80 .. search "film age nikon Flash"

You are an angel, Al. All I know how to do is set my camera on automatic. I don't know how to set aperture or anything else and I don't know if it's important enough for me to figure out and store it in my brain. (since you saw me last I got old). Will it work if I just set the camera on automatic?

Liz, To use the older flash and trigger you will have to step out of your comfort zone a tad.. theres two things you will do.. one is open.and close the lens aperture to let more less light in... the other is to set.the shutter speed.. your camera flash system works at 1/200 sec.. Doing this takes no more experience than turning a few dials..
If you do take the time to play with these things you will have a ton more control over your pics.

If you want it all automatic there "reasonable" priced flashes.. this article talks about your camera's flash system.. and lists newer-ish flashes for it.

I should really learn tp know how my camera works and make use of some of what it can so. I guess that being poor might help me on this. I might be able to buy the stuff next month. I had an unexpected car repair so I'm doing my best to buy as little than I can until I get the credit card off.
