Hi, I am new here to simply discus.
I come from Malaysia. Recently I have started back my childhood hobby, to keep discus fish. I have a 3 feet standard fish tank ( like 45gallon), I used
air pump device to provide oxygen for my fish, no filter inside as I am doing almost 80% WC daily. temperature kept at 30 degree (i think around 86 fahrenheits)
Fish so far are doing fine and eating happily since I bought them 2 weeks ago.

My questions is I am getting fresh water directly from tap water , after I siphoned out all dust and almost 80% of water, I usually add about 20-25cc of antichlorine solution then straight add in new tap water, turn on heater when it's almost reach full tank water and add in another 25cc of antichlorine solution.

I know this is not so idea, but anyone here can help to improve my way of changing water? I dont have space in my house to age water.
thanks in advanced

Is the water coming in from tap somewhat the same to the tank temp?

unfortunately no, that is why I need to turn on the heater as soon as water has rised up

Pat, I don't use aged water (although I think in the winter time it'd be best that I do) and a lot of times the water I put in is much cooler than the tank water (not ice cold, but probably around mid-60's. The water from my tap has a ph just above 7.0 and my tank ph is about 6.5'ish. Rick and others are much better than I am (knowledgeable and routines) but I'm fairly confident that you'll be just fine. Especially since you do daily changes.

What's the temp of the water coming out of the tap?

Cant you mix hot and cold water together before the change.thats how I do it

Thanks Elliot, temp from tap water is definitely colder than my tank water, but here in Malaysia , so no icy water . I have reduced temp of my tank to 29 degree (84 fah) from previous 32degree (89), so that my fish wont experience drastic changes of temp everyday when I do WC.

my water ph in tap is always 7.5-8 and my tank after 1 whole day always stick at same level. no much changes but this high ph is not good to discus fish... but they seems to be alright at the moment....

I would lower the temp further to 82, especially if you can not regulate the incoming tap water. How much colder are we talking here? 10 degrees or 25+?

Patrick,
Your Ph is fine and most important that it is stable. However are you saying that aged water is 25+ degrees colder than tank water? I maybe be reading this wrong.

Thanks Ralph. I am not using aged water, directly from tap. Temp should be around 25+ degree.... i guess I need to get a termometer soon

You need to address the temp swing asap

You do NOT! You are living in Malaysia! Not Antarctic! You should only need the heater running in very colder months(rainy season) only anyway.(Considering your fish are not fry) You tap water temperature should be not more than 3-4C lower than you tank water.
Set your heater to 28C and leave like that forget about heating your tank. Period. You will see that it is hardly on anyway.

OP claims a 25+ temperature difference between tank water and incoming tap water. That sounds like a problem to me.

Patrick,

Do you mean the temp of your incoming water is about 25 degrees C or do you mean it is 25 degrees F colder than your tank. I think you mean it is 25 degrees C or about 77 degrees F.

If the latter is the case, then there is no huge problem here.

I think with a large water change everyday and that temperature change, if you have a mature male and female they will start to spawn for sure!!!...lol
Get a sponge filter! You have an air pump? Put a sponge filter on it, then continue your WC (80%) for a month, by then the sponge will be cycled, then you can reduce WC to 20% daily.

my water here is 25+ degree not 25+ colder than tank.... sorry for causing confusion
